Iftar Picnic: Making the Most of a Summer Ramadan

Iftar Picnic | Modern Muslim Home

Think back to some of your earlier memories of Ramadan. Do you remember early evening iftars and cold nights outside the masjid after taraweeh prayer? Does going to Eid salah, wearing fancy shoes that probably weren't the most appropriate for the snow and cold, sound familiar?

If it does, Ramadan being in the middle of summer may take some getting used to. Long gone are the days of iftars at 6pm, and we think it's time to make some new traditions and memories. One of the easiest and most fun traditions you can start with your family is having iftar picnics. Why not? You have to cook anyway; you might as well take it outside and make it a little more special.

Here's what we advise: pick a day of the week that isn't too hot, arrive early since you won't be staying too late once the sun starts going down, and do it in your backyard or in a close by park so it's convenient for you and doesn't feel rushed. If the weather is nice, we suggest enjoying yourself outdoors before you start chowing down once Maghrib comes in. Read some Qur'an, make du'aa, or just relax and appreciate the beautiful nature around you. If you have kids, they will absolutely love this idea, and will forever thank you for their Ramadan picnic memories once they're older.

Here are some photos for picnic ideas and inspiration. We hope you enjoy!
